MISSION VIEJO : Parking Ban Extended on Oversized Vehicles
Citing safety factors, the City Council extended a ban on the parking of oversized vehicles to all city streets, despite the protests of about 20 residents.
In a 5-0 vote, the council Monday did allow for a few exceptions to the parking restrictions.
Temporary permits for out-of-town visitors will be allowed. Moving trucks will be allowed to load and unload furniture.
City Atty. Peter M. Thorson was asked to look into ways to permit occasional overnight parking of recreational vehicles, such as in cases where a vacationer arrives home late.
But overall, the council found safety issues too compelling to allow permanent street parking for oversized vehicles. Previously, large vehicles had been permitted on connector streets with few, if any, houses.
Councilwoman Sherri M. Butterfield said she had heard from many people who said trucks and RVs were “interfering with sight lines and narrowing the right of way” for other vehicles.
