Central Los Angeles : Cleanup Crew to Go to Bat for Echo Park

Push a broom, get a pair of Dodger tickets.

That’s the idea behind Saturday’s ambitious cleanup project along Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park.

An estimated 700 volunteers (and more are needed) will plant 45 “pink dawn” trees, help paint two large murals, steam clean sidewalks and otherwise gussy up the business district between Portia and Waterloo streets from 8 a.m. to noon.

Volunteers will get two tickets to an as-yet-unscheduled “Echo Park Pride Night” at Dodger Stadium in April, according to Karen Trudnich, a member of the Echo Park Improvement Assn.

Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg is credited with putting together the coalition of city, neighborhood, business and nonprofit organizations for the massive cleanup, Trudnich said.

“The idea behind it is to really concentrate efforts in one particular area so when we get done, you can see the results,” Trudnich said.

Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. at Logan Street School, Logan and Montana streets.
