OAK VIEW : Project to Enlarge Creek Under Study

Share

To protect against future flood damage, Ventura County supervisors Tuesday will consider approving a $900,000 project to enlarge a stretch of San Antonio Creek east of Oak View.

The board will also consider approving an emergency measure so that the project can begin immediately, officials said. The measure would allow the county to receive $600,000 in federal funding.

The project will focus on widening and deepening portions of an 11,000- to 13,000-foot-long stretch of the creek that is surrounded by more than two dozen homes, said Alex Sheydayi, deputy director of public works. Area homes were damaged in heavy floods in January and March, he said.

He said the county plans to begin work on the project in early December, with completion expected in three to four weeks.

The balance of the project’s cost would come from the Public Works Department’s budget, he said.
