A gun-wielding robber browsed for 20 minutes before stealing two pairs of boots and an undisclosed amount of cash from the Payless Shoe Source on Telephone Road, Ventura police said Friday.
Investigators are looking for a man in his early 20s who pointed a gun at clerk Emma Calderon and escaped from the store with money from the cash register about 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Police said the suspect looked up and down the aisles of the shoe store for up to 20 minutes, selected two pairs of boots and approached the cashier as if to purchase the footwear.
He then pointed a small handgun at Calderon, demanded the money and fled on foot with one pair of men’s boots and one pair of infant’s boots, police said.
The suspect was wearing a navy blue baseball cap, a white T-shirt and baggy, light-blue jeans, police said. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact investigators at 339-4400.
