North Hills : Bilingual Health Fair Offered Today

Share

Reaching out to San Fernando Valley residents who may be unaware of the area’s health-care options, a nonprofit community group is sponsoring a bilingual health fair in North Hills today.

Sponsored by Neighborhood Empowerment & Economic Development, Inc. (NEED), the four-hour event will feature free medical services such as blood-pressure testing, eye exams and flu shots, project coordinator Robert Acevedo said.

“A lot of people in the area can’t afford some of these services,” he said.

The tests are available to adults and children and medical records are not required, Acevedo said. About 75 volunteers from 14 agencies will staff the event.

In addition, members of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire Division will fingerprint children for free.

If today’s fair is successful, Acevedo said the organization hopes to make it a biannual event. NEED’s goal, he explained, is to educate Spanish-speaking Valley residents who may be reluctant to seek adequate health care.

“We want people to know about their different medical options,” he said.

The fair will begin at 10 a.m. at NEED’s North Hills office, 8618 Sepulveda Blvd. For information, call (818) 894-6333.
