Allen Is Victim of ‘Old Boy’ Network

Share

* Voters in [Assemblywoman] Doris Allen’s 67th Assembly District are being asked to vote on Nov. 28 [on her recall]. Having read the numerous mailings, we, as voters, have to ask ourselves what our assemblywoman has contributed in the last 12 years. In recent memory, I have been encouraged by her strong stands on education, crime, health, family unity, environment and Orange County’s recovery. None of this legislator’s legislative actions have been illegal!

Our assemblywoman is being attacked by a moneyed, “good old boy” network, now known as the “Orange County Machine.” This astute group was unable to gain a majority speakership in the state Assembly.

Doris Allen enjoyed a good reputation as a senior Republican and received both Republican and Democratic legislative support in her gaining the Assembly speakership. She has been faithful to our 67th District’s needs. It is now the time to show our support for Doris Allen. A poor voter turnout will guarantee the loss of a valued, principled, conscientious state legislator.

The recall price tag is coming from our tax dollars. The schools and cities in Orange County could have put this dwindling resource to better use.

As voters, we have to take a more active role in assuring that all our elected legislators act in our, the voters’, best interests.

* It is ironic that just as we Californians are about to free ourselves of the shackles of the diabolical and despicable Machiavellian political machinations of former Democratic Speaker of the California State Assembly Willie Brown, the Republican establishment elite are utilizing the same methods as the man they have worked so hard to defeat.

In the Nov. 3 article, the headline read, “Pringle Endorses Baugh as GOP’s Best Bet for Allen Seat.” The irony is that Scott Baugh is a carefully transplanted carpetbagger who was handpicked by this elite.

In short, a few Republicans are attempting to cynically and hypocritically fill an elected office with “their man” and in doing so are lowering themselves to the level of Willie Brown.

If these individuals think that this is the way Californians wish to be governed in the post-Willie Brown era, then it may turn out that the warriors against the status quo might not be the ones to lead us into the future.
