Labor Officials Delay ‘Good Guys’ List: Plans by the Labor Department to release a list of apparel retailers and manufacturers judged to be making extra efforts to avoid doing business with sweatshop contractors are being postponed because of the federal government shutdown. The release date of the list, which is intended as a consumer guide, was postponed from Nov. 24 to Dec. 5. A Labor Department spokesman said the delay is necessary because of the many companies that have submitted information in hopes of being named to the list, and the lack of personnel available to review the material. Industry groups, led by the National Retail Federation, have protested the department’s plans, but the Labor Department spokesman said that did not figure in the delay.
