Obituaries : Petra Munoz; Became U.S. Citizen in August

Petra Munoz, a longtime Oxnard resident, died Sunday at her home after a brief illness. She was 85.

Munoz, who was born June 29, 1910, in Mexico, moved to Oxnard 22 years ago from Mexico.

She celebrated a longtime dream of becoming a U.S. citizen on Aug. 11, said her son-in-law Sidney White of Oxnard.

Munoz was a homemaker and enjoyed making handicrafts, crocheting and creating decorative baskets. She was also a member of Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Hueneme.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Isabel Munoz in 1987.

She is survived by her daughters, Bertha White of Oxnard, Angie Aguilar of San Marcos and Rosa Dominguez, Yolanda Arvisu and Fernandina Munoz, all of Mexico; 12 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Islands in Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo. Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Father Joseph Gallardo of Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Conejo Mountain Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Conejo Mountain Memorial Park and Funeral Home.
