Colleges : Campus scene : COSTA MESA : OCC Photographers Capture Two Firsts
A pair of photographers for Orange Coast College’s student newspaper, Coast Report, brought back first-place awards for their work at the annual Journalism Association of Community Colleges conference.
Jay Seidel took first place for news photography and won an honorable mention for feature photos. Matt Brown won first place in the feature photo category.
The rest of the staff brought back nine additional awards in the annual contest for junior college newspapers in California and Arizona.
Second-place honors went to Thomas Edson for an opinion piece and to Lynda Marie Dominic for copy editing.
Andrew Yates picked up a fourth-place award for political cartooning.
Four other members of the staff garnered honorable mentions. They went to Scott Richards for line illustration, Mike Morgenlander for political cartooning, Emily Stewart for editorial writing and Brian Smith for reviews.
