Obituaries : Glenn (Speed) Johnson; Retired Peace Officer

Glenn (Speed) Johnson, a retired peace officer, died Tuesday in the Pleasant Valley Extended Care section of Pleasant Valley Hospital. He was 85.

Johnson, who was born Feb. 19, 1910, in Kansas City, Mo., had been a resident of Ventura County for 38 years.

During his career in law enforcement, he worked for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department in the state of Washington, the Port Hueneme Police Department and the Ventura County Marshal’s Office.

He was a member of the Los Angeles and Ventura Musicians Union, the Pleasant Valley Lions Club and the Church of Religious Science of Camarillo.

Johnson was preceded in death by his son, Carl Robert Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Johnson; his daughters, Betty Critcher of Jensen Beach, Fla., and Laraine Hall of Camarillo; his son, Gary Johnson of Santa Barbara; 12 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary Chapel in Camarillo. The Rev. William Curtiss of the Church of Religious Science of Camarillo will officiate. Burial will be private in Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo.

Memorial donations may be made to the Church of Religious Science of Camarillo.
