* James P. Lingl, a Camarillo lawyer, has been inducted into the College of Community Assn. Lawyers. He was one of only three lawyers nationwide inducted into the group, which is made up of lawyers who represent homeowner associations.

* John A. Parezo, president and chief executive of Lauterbach & Associates, an architectural and planning firm, has been appointed to the oral examination commission of the state Board of Architectural Examiners. Lauterbach has offices in Oxnard and Van Nuys.

* Keith Murphy has been selected vice president of distribution and retail sales at NovaStar Corp., a Simi Valley producer of computer backup and recovery systems. He formerly was in charge of marketing remote access servers at J & L Astro Sciences.

* Robert Cox has been appointed Western regional manager of Materials Advisory Group Inc., a Camarillo concern that assists with business mergers and acquisitions. He has headed his own consulting firm in construction and related industries.

* Marc L. Charney, a senior partner with the law firm of Nordman, Cormany, Hair & Compton, has been elected managing partner. He has been with the firm, which has offices in Oxnard and Westlake Village, since 1967.

Kenneth M. High Jr. and Jonathan Fraser Light were also elected to the management committee.

* Jeff Paul Sr., a vice president of American Commercial Bank in Ventura, has been elected to the board of directors of the California Central Coast World Trade Center Assn.

* Pamela Beardsley of Conejo Mountain Memorial Park Funeral Home in Camarillo has been elected president of the newly formed Gold Coast Funeral Directors Assn.

* Gerald Birin has been selected chief financial officer of Reddi Brake Supply Corp. in Ventura. He succeeds Michael Cassidy, who left the company Oct. 31.

* Iwerks Entertainment Inc. said its board of directors elected Paula Douglass as chairman of the Burbank company.

Douglass, an attorney and former consultant for economic and tourism development for Nassau Bay, Tex., has been a director of Iwerks since January.

Iwerks designs special-format movie theaters, simulation rides and virtual-reality attractions. It recently completed a restructuring aimed at turning around its flagging financial condition.

* Astro Sciences Corp. of Chatsworth appointed James D. Edwards to its board of directors. Edwards had been president of AT&T; Computer Systems Group.

Astro Sciences manufactures various communications gear used in computer networks.

* Pac Rim Holding Corp., a Woodland Hills-based workers’ compensation insurer, appointed three executives to its insurance subsidiary.

Tom Brown was appointed vice president for out-of-state operations; David Blake Chatfield was named general counsel, and David Walker was appointed chief actuary for Pacific Rim Assurance Co., a subsidiary that writes workers’ compensation insurance in California, Arizona and Texas.

* Amwest Insurance Group Inc. has named two retired insurance executives to its board of directors.

Bruce A. Bunner, who retired last year as chairman of Centre Reinsurance Co. of New York, a large reinsurance concern, and Charles L. Schultz, who retired in 1993 as chief financial officer of Farmers Group Inc., were named to Amwest’s board.

Amwest is a Woodland Hills-based company that specializes in surety bonds.
