FULLERTON : McClanahan to Join College District Board

Share

Former Fullerton Mayor Molly McClanahan has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the board of the North Orange County Community College District.

McClanahan, a longtime Fullerton resident and civic volunteer, was chosen from eight candidates interviewed at a public meeting last week.

“You need to know something about my style,” McClanahan, who served on the City Council for 11 years, told district trustees during her interview. “I am a team person. I am not afraid to say, ‘I don’t know.’ But then I proceed to find out.”

McClanahan founded the Youth Employment Service at the YWCA in Anaheim and still works there. She lost her seat on Fullerton’s City Council last year in a recall election that targeted her, along with Mayor A.B. (Buck) Catlin and Councilman Don Bankhead, for voting to levy a citywide utility tax.

McClanahan is the second of the three to return to office. Bankhead was reelected to the council just weeks after being recalled.

She fills the seat left vacant by former board President Nilane A. Lee, who died last week, a month after stepping down because of health problems.
