Tentative Contract for Deputies Reached
Ventura County has reached a tentative settlement with the Deputy Sheriffs Assn., which has been without a contract since July, officials said Thursday.
The two-year contract agreement calls for a 1.5% across-the-board pay increase for all 685 union members, said Sgt. Dave Williams, president of the union.
It also provides for a 5% pay increase--effective Dec. 1, 1996--for members who are at the top of their current salary range, which is about half of the union’s membership, Williams said.
Also, union members for the first time will be able to participate in the county’s 401(k) shared savings plan. Under the terms of the contract agreement, the county will contribute an annual matching contribution equal to 2% of an employee’s salary.
“I think it’s fair, reasonable and deserving,” Williams said of the contract.
The Board of Supervisors will decide Tuesday whether to ratify the contract.
