ORANGE COUNTY ALMANAC : Irvine Monorail Plan Stalled
In the 1980s, commercial growth in Irvine was so explosive that officials considered building a monorail to shuttle out-of-town executives between John Wayne Airport and the nearby Irvine Business Complex.
The city formed a commission to study the idea and even began negotiating with a developer. But funding never became available.
