Council in Need of a Shake-Up

Share

* I had planned to be at the Thousand Oaks City Council meeting Nov. 21 to speak against the need for campaign reform, but unfortunately I was ill and unable to attend. I did, however, watch the entire meeting on television, and it seemed like things are back to normal for the council.

I was appalled at the bickering and fighting that occurred at this meeting. No, not appalled, sickened.

Elois Zeanah was extremely upset that the campaign reform issue had to be tabled due to the length of the meeting. Why was she so upset? First, when Zeanah proposes an item, she feels that it is the most important item on the agenda and how dare anyone block her proposal. Secondly, she and Zukowski had “packed” the meeting with their friends and supporters to speak of the need for campaign reform.

How phony it all was. I have heard no one praise Jaime Zukowski for the great job she does either at a council meeting or in letters to the newspaper. But all of a sudden, everyone is praising her.

If she is that much in need of praise, maybe she should begin being a councilperson for the entire community instead of for the people that support and contribute to her campaign. I felt the entire council made complete fools of themselves.

Council members, grow up and conduct meetings in a professional, businesslike manner. Let’s forget the personal attacks on each other and get on with the business you were elected to handle.

Elois, I am asking you to do the citizens of the beautiful city of Thousand Oaks a favor and resign immediately from the City Council. You couldn’t get along with the previous council and you are unable to get along with this one. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

And Jaime, please don’t run for reelection. Why don’t both of you let someone who can handle the pressure and will work for all of the people of Thousand Oaks sit on the council? We need good people, not people pushing their own personal agenda.

And Mike Markey, people are getting tired of you saying you are not prepared because you are new to the council and your complaint each week on how long the council meetings run. You stated during your campaigns that you could adjust your work schedule to serve on the council. Yet each week, you try to get the council to adjourn before all their work is done. Adjust your work schedule and devote the time to your council position that is required and quit complaining.
