South Bay : Assessment District Sought for Outlet Mall
Officials representing the L.A. Metro Mall, a factory outlet mall to be built next to the San Diego Freeway in Carson, will present their case to the Carson City Council today in hopes of persuading the city to approve a special assessment district for the mall.
A vote on the creation of a Mello-Roos district, which would levy a small assessment on mall tenants for improvements to the property, is not expected until early January, but Metro Mall officials expressed confidence that it would be approved.
L.A. Metro Mall would consist of 1.2 million square feet over two stories. Among the stores expected at the mall are a Saks Fifth Avenue clearinghouse, Mikasa, Loehmanns, Danskin Sport, Ann Taylor Loft, Book Warehouse, Old Navy clothing company, and a Marshalls Super Store.
The mall, which broke ground in October, is scheduled to be completed by September, 1997. Once fully opened, the mall is expected to employ 5,000 full-time and part-time workers.
