Gladys (Cornett) Kinyon; Ventura Resident

Gladys (Cornett) Kinyon, a longtime Ventura resident, died Monday in Ventura after a long illness. She was 81.

Born July 16, 1914, in Camden County, Mo., Kinyon moved to Ventura County 53 years ago.

She was a waitress before becoming a psychiatric technician at Camarillo State Hospital, where she worked for 20 years until retiring in 1969. She also sold Avon products in Ventura for 25 years.

Kinyon was a member of the Women of the Moose No. 918 in Ventura and a former member of the Saticoy Country Club, where she enjoyed golfing. She was also an avid bowler.

Her husband, Russell Kinyon, died in 1974.

She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Herrick of Phoenix; her sons, Owen Cornett and Malcolm Cornett of Ventura; her stepchildren, Jerry Kinyon of Oak View, Scott Kinyon of Northern California and Pat Murphy of Washington state; her sister, Flora Scott of Oak View; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home.
