CAMARILLO : Recycler Scraps Warehouse Plans

Share

The owners of a Camarillo company that buys and sells newspapers, aluminum and other recyclable goods have given up plans for a 9,000-square-foot warehouse on Flynn Road.

Oren Zarin, whose family operates Camarillo Recycling, said that pressure from nearby business owners has forced him to reconsider building at the site.

Instead, he will search for another location. But Zarin said last week he doubts he will find a suitable site in Camarillo.

“The Planning Department already recommended approval,” Zarin said. “Everything was set, but we are worried about being taken to court.”

Nearby business owners last month circulated petitions opposing the application. A number of others wrote letters to planning commissioners, urging them to deny the application.

One company official said he would be forced to relocate his firm if the recycling warehouse was allowed.

But Zarin said the business owners are misinformed. The proposal was simply to store newspapers, plastic, aluminum and other recycled goods before they are sold to processors.

“If we see no other options, we might have to move,” Zarin said. “But we’d rather stay in Camarillo.”
