A public memorial service for Michael Emery, an award-winning journalist, author and longtime Cal State Northridge professor, will be held Saturday in Granada Hills, the university’s journalism department announced.
Emery’s books included “On the Front Lines: Following America’s Foreign Correspondents Across the 20th Century,” “America’s Front Page News, 1690-1970” and the widely used textbook “The Press and America,” written with his father, Edwin Emery, a journalism historian. Emery died Wednesday at age 55.
He joined CSUN’s journalism faculty in 1968 and chaired the department from 1985 to 1990.
The memorial will begin at 3 p.m. at St. Andrew & St. Charles Episcopal Church, 16651 Rinaldi St., Granada Hills. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a scholarship fund in Emery’s name care of the CSUN Journalism Department, 18111 Nordhoff St., Northridge 91330.
