Officer Shoots Suspect and Fellow Policeman
A police officer shot a knife-wielding suspect and accidentally shot another officer Monday, a police spokesman said.
The officers were responding to a 3:30 p.m. call from a woman who reported that a neighbor had been yelling all day in his front yard.
When two officers arrived at the scene, the mentally ill neighbor, 32-year-old Mark Pedersen, was inside the house. His mother let the officers in to talk to him. Pedersen eventually ran out of a back room with a knife, police said.
One of the officers fired on Pedersen, hitting him in the upper torso, and fired again, hitting the other officer in the right thigh, police said. Both men were taken to a nearby hospital. The officer was listed in good condition, and Pedersen was listed in serious condition.
