MOORPARK : Council to Consider Trash-Hauling Pacts

Share

After a series of delays, the Moorpark City Council tonight is expected to consider renewing exclusive rubbish hauling contracts with two east county companies.

G. I. Industries and Anderson Disposal, both of Simi Valley, have spent the last six months negotiating the contracts with city officials.

A city committee and company officials have tentatively agreed on an exclusive five-year contract with an automatic three-year renewal clause for picking up commercial and residential trash in the city.

In September, City Council members put off voting on the agreement after they learned that G. I. Industries, which is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, might be sold by the bankruptcy court. Council members said at the time that they wanted to wait and see if the company was put on the auction block.

Earlier this month, a Santa Barbara bankruptcy judge decided not to sell off the company while company officials work out a plan of reorganization.

The proposed contract would reduce residential trash rates and add such services as curbside pickup of yard and garden clippings for composting.

The council meets tonight at 7 at Moorpark City Hall, 799 Moorpark Ave.
