NEWPORT BEACH : Man Held After Car Windows Are Shot Out

A Glendale man was arrested early Tuesday and accused of shooting out car windows in a Newport Beach neighborhood.

Allan Eric Carlson, 31, was being held in the city jail on suspicion of felony vandalism, with bail set at $10,000.

Members of the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith said they are monitoring the case against Carlson, who was arrested in 1993 on suspicion of stamping racist messages on notebooks at a supermarket and who earlier this year was ordered by a court not to stuff fliers into product packaging.

“He is known to be very anti-government and anti-rich-establishment, so going and railing against a rich white community in Newport Beach may not be without reason from his standpoint,” said ADL lawyer Tzivia Schwartz.

Carlson was arrested at 3:15 a.m. in the Eastbluff area, where he is accused of vandalizing more than 30 parked cars, Lt. Paul Henisey said. Carlson is also suspected of vandalizing 48 other cars in the area on Dec. 10, Henisey said.

Last year, Carlson was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a janitor who police said had attempted to stop him from putting racist leaflets in student lockers at a Simi Valley high school.
