COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : ROSE BOWL : Robinson Kicks Pounds Off Team
- Share via
Coach John Robinson on Wednesday kicked one of his mainstays off the team for USC’s Rose Bowl game against Northwestern, but would not explain why.
Phalen Pounds, a 6-foot-7, 310-pound sophomore starter at right guard, got the boot for “a violation of team policy,” Robinson said.
However, it later was learned that Pounds is encountering academic troubles and his status for even the spring semester is in question.
Senior guard Robert Loya (6-2, 285) is expected to start in Pounds’ place.
