Brothers Help to Arrest Suspects

Two brothers whose car was broken into at the Buenaventura Mall parking lot helped police arrest the suspects, chasing them down and holding them under citizen’s arrest until police arrived.

Tom Mendoza of Ventura and his brother Patrick returned to their parked car Saturday and noticed a window had been broken and the car stereo had been partially pried from the dashboard, Ventura police said.

The brothers saw two men walking away from the parked car, police said. When Patrick Mendoza started to follow them, the suspects began to run. The Mendozas chased the men out of the mall parking lot, across Mills Road, through the Montgomery Ward parking lot, across Main Street and onto the northbound ramp of the Ventura Freeway before catching up to them and holding them until police arrived, authorities said.

Juan Casillas and Juan Tiscareno, both of Oxnard, were arrested on suspicion of burglarizing the Mendozas’ car and another car parked at the mall, police said.
