Most cities and disposal companies have rules for picking up and recycling Christmas trees. Most require that:

* All trees be stripped of ornaments, tinsel and decorations

* Flocked trees, which cannot be recycled, be set out for regular trash collection

* Tree stands and nails be removed

* Curbside collection be done on regular trash pickup days

Trees left at curbside in other cities or on dates not listed above will go to landfills. To have them recycled, they may be taken to the following locations:

* Anaheim, drop-off point at C.V.T. Recycling, 1131 N. Bluegum St., Anaheim, Jan. 5-31

* Buena Park, 7101 Thomas St., today, and Jan. 2-5 *

* Laguna Beach, City Hall employee parking lot across from the Festival of Arts grounds, Saturday and Jan. 6-7 *

* Santa Ana, drop-off points: Home Depot, 3500 MacArthur Blvd., through Jan. 8; Alona Park, 1817 W. 21st St., and Memorial Park, 2101 Flower St., Jan. 6 only, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Tustin, drop-off points: Columbus Tustin Park, 14712 Prospect Ave., Jan. 6 and 7 only, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Home Depot, 2782 El Camino Real, through Jan. 8

* Trees more than 6 feet tall should be cut in half
