William D. Nicely, a former hospital and health-care executive, has been appointed principal officer of American Red Cross blood services for the Southern California Region, composed of Orange and Los Angeles counties.

Nicely was previously senior vice president of network development and operations for Community Care of America Inc. He also served four years as senior executive with the Sisters of Charity Health Care System and was chief executive officer of St. Mary’s Medical Center of Long Beach.

“We are confident that his wide experience will help the Southern California Region continue its operational and financial growth,” said Dr. Allen W. Mathies, chairman of the two-county region’s board of directors.
