Dodgers Hope This Wasn’t Another Error

Tommy Lasorda and the Dodger brass finally got their wish and ran Jose Offerman out of town. Since he came up, they have criticized him publicly. Assigning Joey Amalfitano as his guardian angel only put more pressure on him. As Delino DeShields was quoted in the July 11 edition of The Times, “I saw Offerman’s talent the first game he played in the big leagues, but what I didn’t know was a lot of the things that were going on here. I’m not going to point fingers or name names, but he has a lot of detractors here.”

Sounds like a sequel to the Mariano Duncan story, doesn’t it? One thing remains the same: Lasorda always lands on his feet.

Fred Claire is up to his old tricks of throwing away money. A two-year, $6-million contract for Tom Candiotti was “the last significant piece of the puzzle,” according to Claire. Since Candiotti was 7-14 in 1995, I think Fred’s part of the puzzle.
