Chris Osgood made 28 saves and added an assist to lead the Red Wings to their ninth consecutive victory, a 3-2 decision over the Hartford Whalers at Detroit on Sunday night.

The nine-game winning streak ties a team record set in 1955, the last time the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup. They have also won 15 of 16 and 22 of 24, and extended their streak of holding teams to two goals or less to 11 games.

Tampa Bay 3, Ottawa 0--Not even the return of holdout Alexei Yashin and the home-ice advantage could help the Senators, who were shut out by the Lightning.

Only 8,522 showed up for the team’s final game in the 10,575-seat Civic Centre. The club’s next home game, Jan. 17., is at the new 18,500-seat Palladium.

Vancouver 5, Philadelphia 5--Alexander Mogilny, who had two goals and two assists, scored on a rebound with five seconds left in the third period to complete the Canucks’ comeback from a 5-2 deficit and earn the tie at Vancouver.

New York Islanders 5, Buffalo Sabres 2--Wendel Clark and Marty McInnis scored 18 seconds apart in the third period to lift the Islanders to victory at Buffalo as the Sabres lost their fourth in a row.

Boston 5, Winnipeg 3--Ted Donato and Cam Neely each scored twice and Shawn McEachern added a goal to lead the Bruins over the Jets before a sellout crowd of 15,513 at Winnipeg.

Calgary 3, N.Y. Rangers 1--Michael Nylander scored two first-period goals as the Flames ended the Rangers’ six-game unbeaten streak with the win at Calgary.

The Rangers are winless in their last 10 games at the Saddledome.

Chicago 5, New Jersey 0--Jeff Hackett made 29 saves for his eighth consecutive victory, tying Tony Esposito’s team record, as the Blackhawks shut out the Devils at Chicago.
