Kildee Aide Joins Race for Supervisor

Kathy Long, Ventura County Supervisor Maggie Kildee’s senior assistant, has become the last person to file candidacy papers to run for her boss’s job in the March 26 primary election.

The deadline for candidates to file for three supervisor races was last Friday. But because Kildee, whose district stretches from Fillmore to Camarillo, is not seeking reelection, the deadline for her race was extended until Wednesday.

Long, 44, said she decided to turn in her candidacy papers Tuesday because that was her son Austin’s second birthday.

“That was an important day in my life when he was born,” she said. “So I thought it was important to [file] on that day.”

Other candidates in the race include Fillmore Mayor Roger Campbell, Camarillo Mayor Mike Morgan and former Santa Paula Councilman Al Escoto, another Kildee assistant.
