Nash Leads Sonora Past Fullerton

Aiyana Nash scored 31 points, including five three-pointers, to lead Sonora to a 62-49 victory over Fullerton in the Freeway League opener for both teams Thursday.

Nash, who is averaging 28.6 points, also hit 10 of 12 free throws.

Sarah Fister added 16 points and grabbed 19 rebounds for Sonora (10-4, 1-0). Cara Dykes led Fullerton with 23 points.

In other Freeway League games:

Troy 50, Buena Park 32--Heidi Hardeman scored 22 points and Janea Butler scored 12 points to lead Troy.

La Habra 56, Sunny Hills 40--Erin Allard scored 15 points and Morgan Morris added 14 for La Habra (4-7, 1-0), which led by 13 at the half.

In the Century League:

El Modena 45, Santa Ana Valley 14--Karen Herco had 13 points and six assists for host El Modena (4-9, 1-0), which led, 39-7, after three quarters and held Santa Ana Valley to two field goals in the game.

Villa Park 54, Canyon 42--Meghan Reynolds scored 18 points and Mary Jo Pennington had 14 points and 13 rebounds for Villa Park (7-8, 1-0), which led by six at the half.

In the Olympic League:

Brethren Christian 33, Orange Lutheran 32--Brethren Christian’s Cindy Oparah made one of two free throws with 1.9 seconds remaining to give Brethren Christian a 33-32 lead. Oparah had 11 points.

April Harriman scored 18 points for the Warriors (9-6, 1-0).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Estancia 51, University 38--Estancia (14-1, 1-0) led by five after three quarters then made 11 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter to pull away. Vivi Rodriguez scored 17 points and Jessica Waltz added 13 for the Eagles. Monique Mathews scored 14 points for University (9-5, 0-1).

Laguna Hills 38, Aliso Niguel 26--Fifth-ranked Laguna Hills held host Aliso Niguel under 10 points in each quarter. Whitney Houser scored 14 points and Tamara Inoue 13 for the Hawks (12-2, 1-0).

In the Sea View League:

Woodbridge 69, Newport Harbor 26--Erin Stovall scored 17 points for second-ranked Woodbridge (7-2, 1-0), which led, 54-16, after three quarters.

Santa Margarita 58, Corona del Mar 47--Tiara Stone scored eight of her 16 points in the third quarter when the host Eagles (10-6, 1-0) outscored the Sea Kings, 15-5, to take a 48-35 lead into the final period. Lindsay Warmington scored 20 points for Corona del Mar (12-3, 0-1).

Irvine 54, El Toro 39--Julie Primero had 18 points and nine assists for host Irvine (9-6, 1-0), which made six of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter. Kristen Kopp scored 14 points for El Toro.

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 60, Dana Hills 35--Margaret Hollis scored 20 points to lead top-ranked Mater Dei (10-2, 1-0). Teammate Rhonda Gondringer scored 14 points for the Monarchs.

Jennifer Hass scored 17 points for Dana Hills (0-1 in league).

San Clemente 52, Mission Viejo 32--Kate Turnbull scored 15 points to lead San Clemente (9-8, 1-0). Teammate Kirsten Quade scored 12 points.

In the Sunset League:

Edison 60, Los Alamitos 35--Marie Philman scored 20 points and pulled down 14 rebounds and Kerry O’Bric added 15 points for sixth-ranked Edison (11-5, 1-0), which led, 26-11, at the half.

Esperanza 60, Huntington Beach 45--Lindsay Foss scored 28 points to lead eighth-ranked Esperanza (14-1, 1-0). Teammate Diane Severinsen scored 17 points for the Aztecs. Renee Kimoto scored 12 points for Huntington Beach (0-1 in league).

In nonleague play:

Katella 37, Magnolia 31--Mandy Vanderburg led Katella (7-6) with nine points and teammates Lynn Kaneshiro and Diandra Jay each added eight.

Southern California Christian 34, Riverside Christian 16--Cami Horvath scored 10 points for SCC (3-6).

Corona 53, El Dorado 44--Heather Cunningham scored 15 points for El Dorado (9-4), which was tied, 27-27. Freshman Claudine Auld had 19 points and five steals for host Corona (8-7).

Orangewood Academy 40, Los Angeles Shalhevet 17--Corrie Long scored 10 points and had 14 rebounds to lead Orangewood Academy.
