Planners to Hear Shopping Center Plan

Plans for a 200,000-square-foot shopping center at the intersection of Westlake and Thousand Oaks boulevards will go before the Planning Commission on Monday night.

Brentwood-based developer Rick Caruso hopes to build the Thousand Oaks Town Center at the intersection’s southeast corner. Possible center tenants include a bookstore, a grocery store and an eight-screen theater, as well as restaurants and smaller shops.

Construction of the center, which would contain 20 or 30 stores, would cost about $35 million.

Caruso has already presented his plans to many of the project’s potential neighbors, appearing before the Westlake Joint Board in September. Although many of those attending the September meeting asked how the project would affect neighborhood traffic, they literally applauded the project and said it would be a welcome addition to the area.
