The Lessons of ‘Nixon’

Share

Fred Bruning’s article (“Oliver Stone’s ‘Nixon’: Whose Life Is It Anyway?,” Jan. 5) about Oliver Stone’s historically inaccurate portrayal of Nixon, failed to address one problem: the audience’s possible acceptance of the story as true history.

The present preponderance of movie-goers are young people. Too many are poorly educated under our present system. Their knowledge of history and geography is dismal. They accepted Stone’s “JFK” as actual history. They will also accept his “artistic perception” of Nixon as the gospel truth. A truly perceptive and caring man would have considered the possible outcome. Stone’s ability to make hypothesis seem like history is dangerous to our under-educated society.
