A Thousand Oaks man arrested on suspicion of leading sheriff’s deputies on a 30-mile high-speed chase posted $20,000 in bail Friday, authorities said.

David Shifflet, 47, was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of cocaine, driving under the influence and reckless evading in connection with Thursday’s chase, deputies said.

The incident began in Camarillo when a 17-year-old Camarillo resident told deputies that a man drove him off the road at Cottage Grove Avenue. The man was seen driving by as deputies spoke with the youth. The man then allegedly tried to ram his car into Deputy Veronica Long but missed, deputies said.

The man fled up Pleasant Valley Road and then drove south on the Ventura Freeway in his 1979 Oldsmobile at speeds of up to 110 mph, authorities said.

His car stalled and caught fire when he left the freeway at Kanan Road in Agoura Hills. He had to be forcibly removed from his car, deputies said. Shifflet was treated for minor injuries at St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo and released before spending the night in County Jail, authorities said.
