What had been a highly successful season for Washington took an unexpected turn for the worse Thursday night after a stunning loss to Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore.

But Washington bounced back Saturday with a 72-69 Pacific 10 Conference victory over Oregon at Eugene, Ore. The victory allowed the Huskies (9-4, 2-2) to match last season’s total and ended a losing streak at five games against the Ducks (9-5, 2-1).

“We proved something to ourselves on this trip, both good and bad,” Washington Coach Bob Bender said. “For us to come back today and play well was real important.”

Wilkins, the Ducks’ leading scorer, missed 10 of 12 shots from the field and had eight points.

Oregon committed a season-high 25 turnovers and missed nine of 22 free throws. The most productive Ducks were Santa Barbara transfers Kyle Milling (16 points) and Rob Ramaker (13 rebounds).

Washington State 76, Oregon State 62--Guard Shamon Antrum led five double-figure scorers with 22 points for the Cougars (8-4, 1-3) at Corvallis, Ore.

Washington State again played without injured forward Mark Hendrickson and suspended guard Donminic Ellison. Their replacements, Carlos Daniel and Kareem Jackson, combined to score 25 points.

Guard J.D. Vetter scored a career-high 18 points for Oregon State (3-9, 1-2).
