Moorpark parents and school officials these days are planning not just for tomorrow but for the next 10 years.

Starting this afternoon and continuing through Saturday evening, a group of 29 school administrators, parents, teachers and community leaders will stay at Oxnard’s Casa Sirena Marina Resort to plan strategies for their schools over the next decade.

Modeling the strategy session after similar workshops conducted by Glendale and more than 300 other school districts, the group hopes to set goals and map ways to reach the goals, said Gary Cabriales, a school board member.

“The key is to keep an open mind,” Cabriales said. “We hope we can improve the whole operation.”

Members of the group answered advertisements looking for input into the future of the city’s schools, he said. The plan is to submit a formal blueprint to the school board in April or May.
