And Some of Them Are Resting

OK, so there are a lot of movies coming in ’96. But as things stand now, a few of Hollywood’s finest won’t be involved in any new releases.

Among the missing-in-action actors: Warren Beatty, Annette Bening, new mom Kim Basinger, Macaulay Culkin, Robert Downey Jr., Clint Eastwood, Jodie Foster, Tommy Lee Jones and Susan Sarandon (although you will hear her voice in “James and the Giant Peach”).

And don’t expect anything from these directors: Beatty, Eastwood, Carl Franklin, Amy Heckerling, the Hughes brothers, Ang Lee, Sydney Pollack, Robert Redford, Kevin Reynolds, Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone, Quentin Tarantino and Robert Zemeckis.

And you won’t have Paul Verhoeven or Joe Eszterhas to kick around--at least this year.

Even though it doesn’t show up in the listings, a new film is expected from Woody Allen. He is putting the finishing touches on an as-yet untitled film shot last year starring Julia Roberts.

For the others, there’s always Sneaks ’97.
