Crystal Cove Plan
Concerning the residential renters being evicted from Crystal Cove: I am totally mystified as to the government’s economic logic (“Cove Dwellers Not Ready to Leave Yet,” Jan. 3).
The state is reportedly receiving up to $500,000 annually, with a net potential of $850,000, including rental increases. The state now wants to take bids on running these cottages, but the Irvine Co. (are we surprised when this name looms up again?) is in line for the first rights to operate the rentals. And what paltry amount does the winning “bidder” have to guarantee the state? $100,000!
Chalk up one more to politics, and another huge loss to taxpayers. Is it any wonder that the entire governmental system, from bankrupt Orange County to the deficit-ridden federal government, is sinking in its own self-created mire?
