Cherokee Inc., a Van Nuys company that transformed after a bankruptcy reorganization from an apparel supplier to a licensor and marketer of its brand name to clothing retailers, reported a $336,000 fiscal second-quarter profit on net sales of $2.16 million.

A year earlier, Cherokee lost $5.43 million on $18.9 million in net sales.

In the six months that ended Dec. 2, the company earned $3.18 million on net sales of $12.9 million, in contrast with a loss of $7.77 million on $45.1 million in net sales a year before.

After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November 1994, Cherokee stopped manufacturing and importing its line of casual women’s apparel and sold most of its inventories.
