Bankers Trust Agrees to Settlement of Derivatives Dispute: In its biggest settlement yet of risky investments in derivatives, Bankers Trust Co. agreed to pay $67 million to end the dispute with Air Products & Chemicals Inc. over the securities. Allentown, Pa.-based Air Products & Chemicals lost more than $107 million in investment contracts with Bankers Trust that it said violated its corporate policy against taking risks. The settlement is the largest to date by the New York banking company over the arcane investment instruments. Bankers Trust’s willingness to pay so much heightened speculation that the company may also seek an out-of-court agreement with Procter & Gamble Co. over an even bigger derivatives dispute.
