It was billed as Jason Kidd vs. Grant Hill, the first meeting between last season’s co-rookies of the year on the day they were named All-Stars.

But Thursday night’s game between the Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons ended up being decided by Terry Mills and Allan Houston.

Mills’ season-high 24 points and Houston’s layup with 1.9 seconds left gave Detroit a 93-92 victory at Dallas and made the Pistons last-second winners for the second consecutive night.

Hill had 13 points, eight rebounds and eight assists for the Pistons but fouled out for the first time this year. Kidd finished with 11 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds.

Washington 120, Houston 85--The injury-depleted Bullets got the most out of their nine players in uniform, placing seven in double figures in a rout of the Rockets at Washington.

The Bullets, playing without injured starters Chris Webber and Mark Price, handed the two-time defending world champions their most lopsided loss since last Feb. 6.

Vancouver 106, Toronto 101--Byron Scott scored eight of his 16 points in overtime to lead the Grizzlies at Toronto for their third victory in four games.

NBA Notes

New Jersey forward Ed O’Bannon is out indefinitely because of a sprained left shoulder he suffered after tumbling to the floor in the second quarter of Tuesday’s 89-76 loss at Toronto. . . . The Atlanta Hawks will have a new arena that will open in 1999 after a plan was approved that calls for tearing down the 24-year-old Omni and replacing it with an arena costing more than $200 million.
