Green Bay Packer assistant coach Gil Haskell, said to be rapidly improving, was discharged from the hospital in Dallas where he was treated for a skull fracture suffered in a sideline accident during the NFC championship game. Haskell, 52, left the Baylor Institute of Rehabilitation on a private flight to Green Bay.

Rookie Coach Ray Rhodes of the Eagles was honored as the NFL’s coach of the year for rebuilding the Eagles and guiding them to a 10-6 record and a playoff victory over the Detroit Lions. Rhodes beat out the Packers’ Mike Holmgren and Carolina’s Dom Capers for the honor.

The Eagles signed kicker Gary Anderson, 36, to a two-year contract. . . . Officials of the NFL players’ union said that disagreement among owners on revenue sharing is holding up approval of the three-year extension of the labor agreement. . . . New York Jet quarterback Boomer Esiason, whose charity foundation has raised $2.5 million toward the battle against cystic fibrosis, was honored as the NFL’s man of the year. He dedicated the award to his young son, Gunnar, who was diagnosed with the disease in 1993.
