Semtech Corp., a Newbury Park producer of electronic products, has introduced a new charge controller for batteries used in mobile phones, portable computers, portable power tools and other equipment.

The device, called SC1766, allows a charging circuit to be tested in a few seconds, reducing production costs, the company says.

“With increasing competition in the electronics industry, speed to market and reduced production costs are vital to success and survival,” said Andrew Stewart, a Semtech product manager. He said the new device offers both advantages to makers of battery chargers.
