Library Offers Classes, Access to Internet

Surfing is taking on a whole new meaning in this oceanside town. Instead of tasty waves, residents now can surf the Internet at the San Clemente Library.

Starting this week, residents will be able to access information from thousands of companies, government agencies and other organizations via a library computer by logging on to the Internet.

The library is the first in the county to launch this pilot project and will offer it for the next several weeks on a trial basis. Library officials hope to keep the service running, depending on how well residents respond.

“It’s time we add the Internet to our arsenal,” county librarian John M. Adams said. “Libraries are not only high tech but are still the primary source to seek out comprehensive research. This provides another tool.”

For now, the library is offering free Internet training classes from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays.

Library patrons also can sign up to use the computer on their own from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays. Users are asked to limit their time on the computer to one hour each. Information: (714) 492-3493.
