Van Nuys : Open House to Mark Agency’s 25 Years

Share

Bridge Focus, a nonprofit social service agency, will celebrate 25 years of community support at an open house today at the organization’s new headquarters in Van Nuys.

Bridge Focus formed when the Burbank-based teen counseling group Bridge--A Way Across merged with a Van Nuys-based family counseling agency called Focus.

The agency, which was based in Burbank before moving to its new offices, has been active in several communities in the northeast Valley, particularly Pacoima and Sunland-Tujunga. It is now targeting communities in the central Valley.

“We felt a need to be established within Los Angeles,” said Sheila Mears, an administrative assistant at Bridge Focus.

Recent projects include publication of a community resources directory, written in English and Spanish, to guide residents of the northeast Valley to social services and government agencies.

Bridge Focus also sponsored a first-of-its-kind human resources conference last year at the Phoenix Academy in Lake View Terrace. The conference brought together public and private social-service providers to discuss improving delivery of their services.

The agency has also assailed the concentration of liquor stores in certain Valley communities.

The open house will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the agency’s new offices, 16360 Roscoe Blvd. For information, call (818) 895-5132.
