Firms Agree to Remove Lead From Faucets

Manufacturers of most drinking water faucets in California have agreed to remove nearly all the lead from their products in four years, the state and environmental groups announced.
The agreement is part of a settlement of a lawsuit against makers of brass faucets that contain lead, a cause of birth defects and childhood brain damage.
Seven manufacturers agreed to the settlement last August and the remaining four companies in the case have now accepted similar terms, state Atty. Gen. Dan Lungren and the National Resources Defense Council said jointly on Tuesday.
The four companies that have now settled are Price Pfister Inc., the largest faucet manufacturer and seller in the state; Sterling Plumbing Group, Kohler Inc. and Chicago Faucet Co.
