Ladera Heights
After reading “Ladera Heights Grapples With Its Racial Harmony” (Jan. 28), I was incensed. Your article painted a picture of a graying Caucasian community being pushed out by wealthy African American yuppies with virtually no young Caucasians, Asians or Hispanics moving into this wonderful little community.
Few people want to be a minority, let alone the singular resident from their race in a community. After reading your article why would any non-African American move into Ladera Heights? I’ll tell you why! If you want to live in a place where neighbors still care about and watch out for one another regardless of their race, that is close to LAX (but not close enough to hear the planes), that is convenient to downtown, the Marina and the Westside, where people take a genuine pride in their homes and their community, where the crime rate is low, then Ladera Heights is for you. Welcome!
As a 38-year-old Caucasian man with a 2-year-old son, I want everyone to know that Ladera Heights is someplace special for all races and that we are not planning on being frightened away by The Times.
