An eclectic exhibit of sculpture and paintings by more than 60 artists from Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles opened Thursday in celebration of the fifth anniversary of the Thousand Oaks Community Gallery.

Since the gallery--formerly a deli market bought by the city and converted into a branch library with exhibit space--opened in 1991, the Thousand Oaks Art Assn. has held a public exhibit each February.

This year’s presentation includes more than 85 pieces, ranging from photography and glass sculpture to paintings in oil, pastel and watercolor, said Margaret Travers, a member of the gallery’s steering committee.

“They always come up with a very exciting show that is broad in scope,” she said. “There is something for everyone.”

Local artists whose work will be shown include Jacqueline Cavish of Oxnard and Phyllis Doyon of Camarillo, both watercolor artists. Others include Lorraine Veeck, a Woodland Hills multimedia artist; Rey Aquino, a Wilmington artist in mixed media; and Harry Shenk, a sculptor from Walnut.

The artists were chosen by Gerald Brommer, a nationally known watercolor and collage artist.

The exhibit is on display through Feb. 25. The gallery is open Thursdays through Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. This Sunday, a public reception for the artists will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
