Chatsworth : Council Wants Rock Formations Protected
The Los Angeles City Council moved this week to protect picturesque rock formations in the Stoney Point area of Chatsworth from development.
In 1991, the City Council approved a blueprint for development in Chatsworth that called for the rocks to be preserved when making planning decisions.
However, the map attached to the Chatsworth-Porter Ranch Community Plan omitted some of these rocks--designated as city historic-cultural monuments--according to Francine Oschin, spokeswoman for City Councilman Hal Bernson.
On Wednesday, the City Council instructed the Planning Department to correct the plan map by including additional rock outcroppings, which will also be shielded from development.
The area containing the rocks surrounds the intersection of the Simi Valley Freeway and the Los Angeles-Ventura County line.
