The Fillmore Unified School District has appointed a marketing consultant and a farm labor contractor to finish the last 10 months of two terms on the board of trustees.

Virginia de la Piedra and Dave Anderson were chosen from among eight applicants to serve as trustees, beginning Tuesday and ending after November elections.

Anderson and Piedra will replace Trustees Nancy Marshall and F.W. Richardson, who decided to step down because of commitments to their families and to other organizations in the community, said Supt. Mario V. Contini.

Both trustees had served four years of their five-year terms.

Piedra, who operates a farm labor contracting company with her father in Fillmore, has three children attending schools in the district. She said she applied for the position because “I’m concerned about education and I want to find a way that I can make a difference.”

Anderson, who owns a marketing company, has a sixth-grader enrolled in the district. He said he wanted to serve on the board to “improve the quality of education.”
