Inmates Fast for 2nd Day at Downtown County Jail
About 60 of the 7,000 prisoners at the Los Angeles County Jail began their second day of a hunger strike Friday to protest conditions at the facility in downtown Los Angeles, the Sheriff’s Department said.
According to Police Watch, a private civil rights organization, the prisoners have vowed to continue their strike until their complaints of harsh treatment, inadequate exercise time, cold food and poor medical care are dealt with satisfactorily.
The Sheriff’s Department said it is investigating the complaints.
